Leaving Salzburg and coming back to Vienna there was a
sense of familiarity. We knew of some of
the good restaurants to go to, and fun things to do in our free time, but we
still wanted to do things we hadn’t done the first time around.
MacKenzie and I spent the first day back doing just that,
first we went to the Haus des
Meeres, the Aqua Terra Zoo. This
was a really cool experience because there was one room where a whole bunch of
different animals were together and there were walkways going right through the
“enclosure” that went up like three stories.
Birds would fly right past our heads and monkeys would swing by us on
vines!
View of Vienna from the top of the Danube Tower |
The next place we went was
the Vienna Danube Tower. This is a ways away
from downtown, but is surrounded by a great park to walk around, and the view
from the top is amazing! Very similar to
the Seattle Space Needle, there is a café and restaurant at the top of the
tower, so we decided to just eat lunch there.
What we didn’t know is also like the space needle, the café rotates
around the center of the tower, which made for great views as we ate our meal.
The performances this time
around were also great! My favorite of the two being the Wiener Symphinker (the
Vienna Symphonic Orchestra). With piano
guest soloist Jasminka Stancul performing Mendelssohn’s piano concerto number 2
with an encore of Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata, it was a great concert!
