11.01.2020

Today can truly be summed up in three distinct parts. It began with a guided tour of Prague including the palace. This three hour tour was well done. From our guide I learned quite a bit about this foreign city. On this tour the class got to witness the ceremonial changing of the guard, tour part of the palace and get a tiny portion of the history of each part of the city. We even got to see a window famous for the defenestration of two royal governors.
The second significant portion of todays activities was the Speculum Alchemiae also known as the Museum of Alchemy. As a fan of mythology and magic as well as a chemistry major it was fascinating to see the two of them combined like the missing link between magic and science.
The museum provided a history of famous alchemists including Edward Kelley and John Dee and their connection to the history of the Czech Republic. The museum also contained information on the practices of these alchemists that are still used in modern science.
The third part of today and absolute highlight of today was the Czech Folklore Dinner Show. The live music that was preformed was fun to listen to and was easy to get into. I had never seen or heard a dulcimer before but I was quite impressed with the instruments sound. It was also rather cool to hear the violin used to make bird calls. The Czech dancing was very fun to watch and watching the people from our group participate was even more entertaining. Between the lively music, good food, and entertaining dancing the dinner show was an absolute blast.
