Kelli Bower: Far From Home

Unlike Spiderman; Far From Home, our trip had already placed Prague in our itinerary.

Vinohrady Theatre: Filming location for Spiderman: Far From Home
This city presented a traditional rustic scenery while providing many cobblestone hills.  A curiosity is sparked about when weather hits the city because the stones become so slippery and there is rarely any flat ground to walk on.  The metro system is all above ground which was interesting because I was able to view more of the city while trying to avoid my daily cardio. What was shocking about Prague was the tourist economy that was presented.  This city contains over 200 museums, which serve to entertain the common traveler. At the open air market there were more souvenir shops than fruit/food stands.

The sights of the city are breathtaking, from the Old Royal Palace you can view all of the city from this viewpoint.  I believe that some of my best photos so far on this trip have come from Prague. What was also shocking was the amount of woodworking shops that were present. I think that they were all owned by the same brand, but I was still engaged on the present they have on the environment.

The food was amazing across the board.  I ate at restaurants, street charts, and even a prestigious bar.  I tried sauerkraut for the first time on a hot dog, and ate a whole potato spiraled on a dowel.  The Czech folk garden provided a great experience of food and dance. The night started off with a glass of honey wine to enter the building.  After an amazing soup to start, platter of potatoes and meats were constantly brought. Our dessert consisted of an apple strudel and one of my glasses of white wine was poured from a contraption that released more air into the mixture.  We also had an amazing buffet with the other PLU study away class in Prague.

Church of Saint Ludmila
We visited two performances while in Prague, first was an octet with a baritone singer and the second was a very modern ballet.  What differed from Leonce and Lena versus Onegin, was their dance styles. The more traditional ballet, used very technical aspects of French ballet and were wearing pointed shoes.  This modern rendition of the ballet, would provide a resemblance to the technical side, but be more focused on the interpretation of the dance and not as much the dance matching and becoming an extension of the music.  The music while in a Major key, presented a clockwise uneasy fill during transitions of the sets. Staging for this ballet included a rotating stage with three different sets. Modern songs were also placed in the program through the use of a radio.  Overall it was a very interesting ballet and was a great end of a very long day.

Petrin Tower
My artist for this city was Felicita Frai.  She was a Czech painter from 1909-2010 and moved to italy to study fresco painting.  She is mostly known for her illustrations in Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.  While I did not have the appropriate supplies, fresco painting is used for placing mural paintings on freshly laid or wet lime plaster.
