Theresienstadt

Twenty bodies shamble into the little fort. Above the entrance reads "ARBEIT MACHT FREI": work sets you free. Lies. The twenty are in a world apart, an evil reality of cold darkness.

In this place, prisoners are made to butcher each other. The screaming from the cells persists indefinitely. Prisoners compete with each other for air in a chamber that can hold twenty-five but is filled nightly with three times that, suffocating and vomiting as they climb atop each other to breathe, crushing those below. Outside, they are made to dig into the ground and then jump on the surface until they fall through and bury themselves alive.

Something about this place has ensured that neither the monsters in charge nor the prisoners retain their humanity. In this place, they are humans no longer. The twenty feel this; their robbed humanity will not return until they depart back to their world.
